JOHN COX, LLB



 

John Cox has been in private practice as a barrister and solicitor for twenty years. He has been the principal of Blomkamp Cox Solicitors since 1999.  He specialises in business and property law, residential and business conveyancing, estate and financial planning and trusts, insolvencies and civil litigation and family law.  He has appeared before all courts and tribunals up to, and including, the Court of Appeal.

 

He has been a Senior Trustee Member (MNZTA) of the NZ Trustees Association since 1999, the Honorary Solicitor of the Birkenhead Bowling Club Inc. since 1999, and a legal advisor at the Birkenhead Citizens Advice Bureau since 1990.   He has been a member of the Public Issues Committee of the Auckland District Law Society Inc. since February 2009, and has drafted several issued papers for the committee. John founded and led the Campaign for the Privy Council in 2003 and 2004, opposing the abolition of appeals from New Zealand to the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council in London.

 

Outside the law, John Cox has had a lifelong interest in general and military history, politics, heraldry and vexillology, genealogy, anthropology and archaeology. He was a member of the Auckland Division of the Royal New Zealand Navy Volunteer Reserve, HMNZS Ngapona, from 1995 to 2009, serving as a Lieutenant.  He was a correspondent of the International Institute for Strategic Studies (London) from 1996 to 2002, and an occasional book reviewer for the Australian Defence Force Journal.  He has been a member of the Defence of New Zealand Study Group since 1997. John Cox is also a leading New Zealand vexillolographer.  He was the founder of the New Zealand Flag Institute Trust in 2004, and remains the trust’s Executive Director.  He was a founding member of the Monarchist League of New Zealand Inc. (now Monarchy New Zealand) in 1995.  He was a councillor from 1999 to 2008, and treasurer from 2000 to 2004.  He was a member of the Heraldry Society of New Zealand (formerly the Heraldry Society (New Zealand Branch) Inc.) from 1983 to 2008, serving as councillor 1994 to 2008, and legal advisor 1995 to 2008.  John’s other hobbies include classical music, running and gardening.

 

John is married, with one son.

 

STAFF SOLICITOR :

IAN GIBSON, LLB

Ian Gibson has over thirteen years experience as a solicitor in general legal practice. He has been a senior staff solicitor at Blomkamp Cox Solicitors since February 2011.  His areas of work include all aspects of residential conveyancing, commercial property transactions, commercial leasing, wills and estates, commercial contracts, residential and rural subdivisions, preparing loan documentation, trusts, mortgages and securities and in particular has worked for two finance companies over a number of years.

 

Ian has a particular interest and personal experience in property investment, development of residential and rural subdivisions, and has had direct experience in the establishment of several forestry partnerships, including hands on involvement in purchasing the land, establishment of the forest and ongoing silviculture work.  More recently he has been involved with the sale and logging operation of his first block.

 

Ian lives in the East Coast Bays, and his interests include sailing, especially offshore, having built four steel yachts in Whangarei, fishing, table tennis, travel and reading.

 

LEGAL EXECUTIVE:

JADE WALKER

Jade Walker has over six years experience as a legal executive/secretary in general legal practice. She has worked for Blomkamp Cox Solicitors since October 2006.  Her areas of work include all aspects of residential conveyancing, commercial property transactions, estates, preparing loan documentation, family trusts and trust account maintenance.

 

Jade qualified as a Legal Executive in 2010, and has a particular interest in residential conveyancing, especially dealing with first home buyers.

 

Jade lives on the North Shore and her interests include running, reading and spending time with friends and family.

 

LEGAL SECRETARY:

SACHA PETERSON

Sacha Peterson has four years experience as a legal secretary in general legal practice, she is also in her final year of study to become a legal executive. She has been a legal secretary at Blomkamp Cox Solicitors since September 2010.  Her areas of work include residential conveyancing, Wills and estates, immigration and general office duties.

 

Sacha has a particular interest immigration, conveyancing and estates.

 

Sacha lives on the North Shore, and her interests include music, spending time with family and friends, holidays and chasing after her 5 year old daughter and naughty 4 month old puppy!

 

We practice extensively in the areas of business law, commercial property and trusts, also we specialise in immigration law. We have specialist knowledge in real estate development and subdivision areas (including retail, residential, industrial and commercial), along with structuring property joint ventures and investment vehicles, forestry transactions, due diligence, company and partnership formation, business and property sales, purchases, and financial arrangements.
